THE FERAL FIVE

Larry and I were out by the pool when we heard the gate behind us "click." Out of the corner of my eye, I say a tiny white blur streak toward the bar under the patio. We heard noises coming from the bar, more than one then. I peaked in, there were two. In shock and denial I went inside. I came out and looked again, there were three. Back inside. I looked again, there was one, a different one... there are four! I went in and called Jen.

Jen lovingly rescues and places kittens (Family Additions). She brought out a couple traps so we could catch them without hurting them. While she was here her fiance and Larry spotted a little white kitten in the ditch near our house and Jen quickly nabbed him. The next morning we had the little grey tabby male in one of the traps, and mommy appeared looking for her missing tribe members. Tuesday night I caught the little black female when I spotted her making a suicide run for the cub habitat. I peeked in the bar, and there was the grey tabby and white male, so I grabbed him. All four were now safe and sound in the guest bath.

Wednesday evening we had still not caught the mommy, she would not go near the traps. Larry came up with the idea to put the kittens in a carrier and open the back room and see if we could lure her inside. He was just ready to give up for the evening, when we got her inside and the door closed. She was very reluctantly lured from there to the living room and all the way into the guest bath... where she was very happily reunited with her little family.

We kept Samhain and Magick. Samhain has tamed down and we can pet her, but she is still pretty spooky. Magick is still nervous and we have yet to pet her after all this time. We have the patience to build a bond and make them part of the family no matter how long that takes. My work friend Natalie took little Sphinx (whom she named) as a companion for her kitty Pharaoh. Jen found loving homes with fellow photographers for Ghost and SpitFire.
