ROCKFOLIO GALLERIES
I worked as a photographer, writer, editor, and publicist in the late 80's and early 90's in the Los Angeles music scene.
I photographed some of the biggest bands of the time (including: Alice In Chains, Bon Jovi, Bullet Boys, Gene Loves Jezebel,
Guns N Roses, Kiss, Megadeath, Mr. Big, Queensryche, Skid Row, and Whitesnake). I also photographed for many of the local
bands themselves (including some of my favorites: Blackboard Jungle, Cry Wolf, Lypswitch, Rozy Coyote, and St John).
I started Rag Mag in 1989 as a kind of spoof of other local magazines. My friends Amber McKenna and Carri Nickels helped launch it, and Amber contributed writing for the first four issues and assisted with editing, production and publicity. It was later changed to Southern California's Rocker Magazine to be a more serious publication (with Traci Anderson). After seven total issues, the magazine was retired and I was hired as Executive Editor of HOLLYWOOD ROCKS (about a year). Machelle Grospitz was Assistant Editor and Jen Lowery became a featured photographer. I freelanced for several years following my departure from HR and was published in the Attic Graphics catalogue, BAM, Backstage, Concrete Jungle, Crash!, L.A. Music Scene, Metal Brigade, Metal Edge, Metal News, Music Connection, Music Voice, Radio Active, Rock City News, RIP, Screamer, VivaRock and other local, national and international publications... as well as shooting for Pirate Radio, KNAC, and a few record labels. Machelle Grospitz was my agent. I published ROCKFOLIO, a pin-up calendar of local musicians, in 1992. A panel of gal pals chose the models, providing a wide variety of types of music and musicians. Layout and design was done by Greg Carchidi, Kelli Capo and Peter Ianucci, and printing by Bill Hartwick. Nancy Slosarik did hair, makeup, styling and promotion. Diana Engle provided administrative assistance and promotion. The release party was held at Gazzarri's on The Sunset Strip and was hosted by Rich Bartle and Joe Gallagher. Sound was supplied by Tim Wright. Photography was provided by Jen Lowery, catering and additional promotion was supplied by Dianne Agee, and the sales booth and additional publicity was worked by Amber McKenna and Carri Nickles. I left the rock n'roll world in the early 90's, having moved on to a variety of other worldly subjects. But I will always have fond memories of the wild side of night and of witnessing some of the greatest performers and performances of the time. Once in a great while I shoot something from this realm, usually only for a close friend, but I occassionally add something from my archives.
