BATH SALTS

I make bath salts with pure, solar dried, sea salts. They are available in course, medium, and fine grades offering a variety of textures.

There are other kinds of salts available (Dead Sea Salts for example), but always do your research on your salt supplier and ingredients before buying.

I sometimes use epsom salt (organic of course) in addition to other salts in bath blends.

Of course you should only use Therapeutic Grade A Essential Oils!

Basic Bath Salt Formula:
10-12 drops essential oil(s)
1 oz sea salt/epsom salt

I USED to use food coloring in my salts, but when I learned what those are made of I no longer color my salts.

COMMON SCENTS

When using essential oils to consecrate, annoint, or in any form where you "touch" the oil (to dress a candle, tools, or yourself), ALWAYS check to see if it needs to be diluted in carrier oil and/or is okay to come in direct content with the skin for safety FIRST! Lavender and Tea Tree are two essential oils that can be applied "neat" or directly to the skin undiluted.

Standard Dilution: 2.5% = 15 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil
Medicinal Dilution: 5% = 30 drops per 1 ounce of carrier oil

CARRIER OILS
ESSENTIAL FACTOIDS

The use of essential oils dates back to ancient Egypt.

Essential oils are powerful allies in magick.

Scent is one of our keenest senses and taps into our emotions, feelings and memories.

I do not use rare or endangered plants (such as sandalwood). I substitute something in abundance. I do ritual work toward conservation. Check Plant Savers

GRANDMA WOULD APPROVE

When I was little, and got sick... grandma Ritch made wonderful herbal remedies and teas that always cured what ailed me.

Trying to follow in her footsteps as I got older, I have always used HERBAL REMEDIES. I became frustrated as most of these were not as effective as grandma's were.

Why? She used the REAL PLANTS, not the dried ones we have become used to in these times.

In my own personal research I have discovered something more powerful than the plants themselves, ESSENTIAL OILS (liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds). Highly concentrated, they are far more potent than dried herbs.

NOT ALL ESSENTIAL OILS ARE EQUAL

There is a HUGE difference between the low quality aromatherapy oils and synthetics mostly offered and the true Therapeutic Grade A essential oils.

Therapeutic Grade A Essential Oils are extremely concentrated (particularly those derived through distillation, the most effective method of extracting essential oils from plants).

Therapeutic Grade A Essential Oils can be 50 TIMES more therapeutically potent than the plants they originated from.

Herbs cut and dehydrated can lose as much as 90% of the healing nutrients they once had.

Most essential oils found in health food stores are low quality and full of additives, even those labeled "PURE" or "ALL NATURAL." You must learn to read labels.

For medicinal and healing purposes, it is VITAL essential oils be unadulterated.

MAGICK OILS?

I felt particularly offended to learn almost ALL oils sold at pagan shops are full of synthetic ingredients (colors, fragrance oils, filler oils - just to name a few), or are admittedly 100% SYNTHETIC OILS.

It's not that they are fake that bothers me, it is what they are MADE OF. Most of these synthetics and additives are petroleum products! That is just against my religion ;-)

ESSENTIAL IDEAS

Spray:
10-12 drops essential oil(s) to 1 oz organic witch hazel or distilled/spring water

Bath:
5-8 drops essential oil(s) to full bath (add to carrier oil if needed for before adding to tub)

Potpourri:
add essential oil(s) to dried botanical materials

Perfume:
15-30 drops essential oil(s) to 1 oz jojoba oil or vodka

PRECAUTIONS

If you are going to use essential oils, you need to do your own research.

Aromatherapy books are written for the masses and to avoid lawsuits. Dosages are kept very low. If there is any possibility of any negative effect, all precautions are greatly exaggerated.

I for one would rather try an HERBAL remedy before a prescription drug. HAVE YOU EVER READ THE DISCLAIMERS AND SIDE EFFECTS LISTED ON ANY MEDICATION? We ready gobble down over the counter remedies, but the toxicity of plants is the bigger danger to us?

Do your own homework on any drug (or cosmetic, hair or skin care product for that matter) and research each ingredient.
